Effective date: July 30, 2026
Level Up ("the app," "we," "us") is a gym-accountability app. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version. Level Up works with no account at all, and used that way nothing you create ever leaves your phone. If you choose to sign in and add friends, a small amount of data — your display name and your streak stats — is synced so your friends can see it. Your progress photos, bodyweight, and notes are never uploaded under any circumstances. There are no ads, no tracking, and we never sell your data.
Which data is involved depends entirely on whether you sign in. Signing in is optional, and the app is fully functional without it.
The following never leaves your phone, whether or not you sign in. It is not uploaded, it is not backed up to us, and it is not visible to us or to your friends:
Your friends only ever see the summary stats in the table below — never a photo, never a weight.
Sign in with Apple is the only sign-in method. There is no password and no other login option.
We do not receive your email address. The app asks Apple only for your name, so Apple never sends us your real address or a relay address. What we receive is an anonymous identifier that is unique to you and to this app.
| What we store | Why |
|---|---|
| Anonymous Apple user identifier | Identifies your account and links your friend connections. |
| Display name and avatar emoji — both chosen by you, editable any time | So friends know who you are. Use whatever name you like; a real name is not required. |
| Friend code | A short random code so people can add you without us exposing a user directory. |
| Streak, longest streak, level, rank, XP, weekly goal, and the dates you checked in | The progress your friends see, plus the leaderboard and challenges. |
| Your friend list, nudges, reactions, and challenges you join | To make the social features work. |
| Text you type into a group challenge — its name and an optional "wager" line (for example, "Loser buys lunch") | Shown to the friends you invite to that challenge. Only stored if you create a challenge, and only visible to its invited members. |
| A notification token for your device | To deliver a push when a friend nudges you. Only stored if you allow notifications. |
This data is visible only to you and to the friends you personally accept. It is never used for advertising or tracking, and it is never sold or shared for marketing.
If you sign in, we rely on two providers, and only to run the features described above:
We use no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs of any kind.
Your on-device data is protected by iOS file encryption and is only accessible while your device is unlocked. Data synced for the Friends features is transmitted over standard HTTPS and protected by per-user database access rules, so one account cannot read another account's data unless you are accepted friends. The app uses no custom encryption.
If you never sign in, we have nothing stored to delete, and there is no account to close.
On the Friends tab you can long-press any friend or request to block or report them. You can also report a challenge whose name or wager is inappropriate, which removes you from it. Blocking is immediate and stops all further requests and nudges between you. Reports are sent to us and reviewed within 24 hours, and we may remove accounts that abuse the service. We keep a record of reports so we can act on repeat behavior.
Level Up has no chat or free-form messaging. A nudge is a fixed, non-editable notification, and the only free text you can enter is your own display name and the name/wager of a challenge you create.
Level Up is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
You can view and edit your display name and avatar in the app at any time, and you can delete all of your data yourself with Settings → Delete account. For any other request regarding your data — including a copy of it — email us at the address below.
If the app's data practices change, this policy will be updated and the effective date above revised.
